![]() | Wear earplugsMany people don't realise there are earplugs that are designed for listening to music with. If you wear earplug at clubs and gigs, wear them with pride! Be an earplug advocate - tell people why you wear them and where you bought them. |
![]() | Educate yourself and your friendsInvestigate how loud music can damage your hearing, think about where you will be at risk and decide what you will do to protect your hearing. Educate your friends by talking to them about what you know (for instance, a handy tip is that if you can't hear someone talking 2m away the music is potentially damaging). If you own earplugs, tell others what it's like to use them at a gig or club (often people don't know what'll be like so don't try them). |
![]() | Take controlBe aware of loud noise, and take control of it when you can. For example, if you are a DJ or in a band you will have some input into the volume of the PA system. If you are organising an event, make sure everyone understands what sound levels are acceptable. Look for noise ratings on stereo equipment. And if you listen to an MP3 player, use the SMART volume feature to set the volume you want to listen at. |
![]() | Challenge Yourself, Challenge DeafnessOne of the most popular ways to raise money for RNID is by taking part in our challenge events. Activities range from 10,000 feet skydives to trekking along the Great Wall of China. So if you fancy running in a marathon or simply want to abseil down the side of a building to raise funds for RNID, get in touch. You'll find more details on the RNID website. |
Talk to the mediaBecome a case study. If you have a problem with your hearing that you think is linked to damage from loud music, you could really help us. The media are always looking for 'real-life' examples of the issue, especially stories from their local area. So wherever you are in the UK you could help out. Email dontlosethemusic@rnid.org.uk to find out more about how this works. |
