Don't Lose The Music is brought to you by RNID

Did you see us in Bristol?

The Don't Lose the Music Squad hit the streets of Bristol on Tuesday 3 June 2008 to measure what volumes people were listening to on their MP3 players. We found that many people may be damaging their hearing by listening more loudly and longer than is recommended.

We're still finding consistently that the majority of people are listening above the recommended 85 decibel level. This is a concern as it means they could be risking hearing loss, particularly when combined with a lifestyle including loud music at clubs, pubs, gigs and festivals.

What is encouraging is that many people we speak to are really surprised how easy it is to make sure their hearing is protected, by taking breaks or upgrading to better quality headphones. Particularly sound isolating or noise cancelling headphones are very useful for this, as you won't have to crank the volume up to drown out train, street or other outside noise.
